Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington has perfectly explained why it was right for his character Jon Snow not to have taken the Iron Throne in the HBO fantasy show’s season eight finale.

One year on, and some audiences are still up in arms over the revelation that Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) ended up claiming the iconic seat. Spoiler alert.

However, in a recent video interview posted on @purple_dwagon’s Twitter page, Kit summed up why that ending made sense.

‘When people say “I wish you had been on the Throne”, or “I wish you had been with Dany on the Throne,” I would disagree because Jon’s place was always in the north,’ Kit began.

‘He would never have been happy in the south. He’s like Ned Stark. When Ned goes south, he’s in danger. [Jon] belongs north of the wall.’

Kit continued: ‘I haven’t seen it, but what I tried to do with the ending was I tried to make this lightness about him.

‘This terrible thing that he’s been through is all falling off as he goes north of the wall.’

The final ever episode of Game Of Thrones delivered fans an epic twist and concluded with Jon being banished to return to the Night’s Watch in an agreement between the kingdoms to please the Unsullied army – who felt he should be punished after killing Daenerys Targaryen.

A pretty harsh punishment for killing off a tyrannical ruler who massacred millions of people, but hey, who are we to say anything?

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on HBO, Sky and NOW TV.
