They continued: “By the time we see her take it off in season 6, she has completely lost confidence in herself and her faith.

“You can also tell by her wardrobe – in season 5 when she first appears at the wall, she isn’t wearing any warm clothes and claims that the lord’s fire keeps her warm. 

“Prior to Jon’s resurrection in season 6, she is shown to be wearing multiple layers to keep herself warm which demonstrates the current crisis of faith she’s going through,” they argued. 

While Melisandre’s character is one of the oldest on the show, it’s unlikely fans will learn more about her powers in the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, which is currently in production.
