Game of Thrones has never been scared of making shocking threats a reality throughout the show.
While many characters may have been seen threatening violence upon others, the fact of the matter is many of them would certainly do it.
The worst instances of this, however, have been the characters’ displays of violence towards their own family.
Perhaps the most shocking instance of this was back in season five, when Stannis Baratheon (played by Stephen Dillane) was convinced to burn his daughter alive.
At the time, the burning of Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram) was supposed to be a sacrificial act to help Stannis on his conquest to take the Iron Throne.
While not the first prospective king to carry out some heinous acts in aid of garnering the position, this one in particular was difficult to comprehend.
Melisandre (Carice van Houten) was instrumental in this event, as she was the witch on the scene who convinced Stannis this action was necessary for his kingdom’s progression.
Although the actress carried out her acting duties without a problem at the time, she now confesses she would have found it “troubling” if it was filmed today.
Speaking to Deadline, she explained: “Of course it’s fiction, but that was raw and gruesome.
“I remember first reading it and thinking, ‘Are we actually going to do this scene?’”

She went on to add: “I wasn’t a mother back then. I think I would have found it more troubling now.”
Unfortunately for Shireen, her death was required as it melted the snow plaguing Stannis’ army at the time.
However it created a powerful disdain between him and his wife, before almost everyone deserted him.
While Shireen’s sacrifice appeared to have an effect, Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) slaughter of the residents of King’s Landing certainly didn’t.
This act was enough for Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to turn his back on her, and murder her in cold blood to prevent any more bloodshed.
This was followed by a devastated Drogon taking Daenerys’ body and flying away – never to be seen again.
A Game of Thrones fan recently theorised the great beast did this because of guilt.
The Reddit user wrote: “I have an explanation… guilt. He felt bad. He knew what he had done was wrong.
“Think about it. He had only killed murderers, tormentors, in defence of his mother. He had never harmed a child.
“If this dragon was capable of enough guilt at killing one little girl imagine the torment at citywide annihilation.”
