Game Of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel has recalled dealing with bosses who have expected her to do nude scenes, after starring in the HBO fantasy drama.

The actress appeared in certain scenes having stripped off as Missandei, however, Nathalie has insisted just because she did do it in that role doesn’t mean it’s a free-for-all for any projects moving forward.

While she’s been challenged in the past on her decision, Nathalie insisted she will only do nudity if she thinks the role needs it and it is necessary for the character’s development.

Speaking to Josh Smith on the Make It Reign podcast this week, she said: ‘When I did Game Of Thrones I agreed towards certain nude scenes or nudity within the show. And the perception from other projects, when the role required nudity, that I was just open to do anything because I did it on that one show.

‘But what people didn’t realise is I agreed terms and specific things for that one particular project, and that doesn’t necessarily apply to all projects.’

She added: ‘I’ve had people challenge me and be like, “But this part requires that”, and I said, “That’s fine if you require that in the part, I don’t feel comfortable doing that level of nudity. I will do this amount, you know, I can do this, which I think is necessary for the part”.

‘Frankly, if someone was like “Well we need this nudity” I would be like “Well thank you very much, I appreciate your interest but that’s just not what I feel is necessary for this part and its a difference of opinion and creative differences and thats fine”.’

Nathalie – who previously opened up about getting over the initial feelings of being nude on screen – said that in her experience ‘nine times out of 10 people are much more solutions-based and want to come to a compromise,’ stating ‘there is always a middle ground’.

During its eight seasons, Game Of Thrones became one of the most prolific shows on TV, but before Bran Stark was crowned king and that was what encouraged watercooler chatter, all anyone was talking about – or at least what it felt like – was the graphic violence and level of nudity.

Previously speaking about this latter element of the show, Nathalie’s co-star Emilia Clarke insisted it wasn’t what the series was about and that she could count on one hand how many times she’s stripped off.

‘Kit’s [Harington] ass, someone else’s ass, my ass, it doesn’t matter! It’s not what the show is about, it’s not what any bit of acting is about,’ Emilia told Associated Press in 2019.

She added: ‘As for my character, I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been naked.’

The Daenerys Targaryen actress believes the message it has for empowering women is so much more important as she continued: ‘I can talk about the importance of women in this show until the cows come home.

‘It has gone a way to changing the landscape of the industry as we see it, which is really vital and really important.’
