Warning: Contains spoilers for Game Of Thrones season seven.
A new fan theory following the Game Of Thrones season seven finale reckons Cersei is being lined-up for a death which delivers some sweet, poetic justice.
Strictly Come Dancing’s Mollie King wants to do Bruce Forsyth proud
While the character was arguably the standout in the finale titled The Dragon And The Wolf, many fans are already seeing her death as an inevitability in the way too far away season eight.
But how could she bow out? Considering she’s now on seemingly amicable terms with Tyrion and with Jaime leaving King’s Landing to fight up North, many believe she could become victim during childbirth.
It ties back to the original prophecy Cersei received as a young girl which foretold her death from Maggy The Frog, which stated:
‘Three [children] for you. Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds. And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.’
The first part of the prophecy has already been fulfilled with all three of her children dying, but the reveal of her being pregnant in season seven left many wondering whether the rest of the prophecy would come to light.
However Redditor r/asoiaf has proposed how it could plan out, writing: ‘She’s definitely gonna die in childbirth right? The kid will be a male, thus fulfilling the “Little Brother” requirement and she’ll be dead, thus fulfilling “only have 3 children” requirement.
‘Couple that with dying the way Tyrion was born and we’ve got some wonderful poetic justice imo.’
It’s always been believed ‘valonqar’ (which means ‘little brother’ in Valyrian) would refer to despised brother Tyrion – but could this now be directed at what’s cooking in the oven?
It’s been previously noted how Jaime could also be in contention considering he’s also a ‘little’ brother, but with his disappearance in the season finale, it seems like he might be out the picture too as a suspect for killing his sister.
Cersei has always hated Tyrion for ‘killing’ their mother in childbirth, so it would be pretty apt if she is killed off in a similar vein, especially if she gives birth to a child with dwarfism.
Either way, can we all just remember how excellent Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey were in that reunion scene in the season finale? What a moment.
