Game of Thrones ended more than a year ago. Fans of the show dearly miss the excitement of watching a new episode every week. HBO is trying to revive the tradition with a number of prequel shows. House of The Dragon is already on the way, while three more series are in development at the headquarters. However, it seems there’s more for Game of Thrones fans they can look forward to. George R.R. Martin is developing a live stage spectacular for Broadway, West End and Australia, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The play will bring fan-favourites like Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister back to life while dramatizing a legendary event in Westeros history.

The play is said to be a prequel set during The Great Tourney at Harrenhal, 16 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The tournament was the start of the pivotal events that would eventually lead to Robert Baratheon’s rebellion and the overthrow of the Targaryen dynasty. The unnamed play would give fans a chance to revisit popular characters like Ned Stark, Jaime Lannister, Robert Baratheon, Oberyn Martell, Barristan Selmy, Arthur Dayne, and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.

Game of Thrones’ new prequel play in works at Broadway

The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace,” Martin said. “Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring. It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice and Fire … and now, at last, we can tell the whole story… on the stage.”

The play will be on the stage by 2023. Are you excited about it? Tell us in the comments below!
