This is a different kind of video for me. It’s less of a writing lesson than it is a reading lesson, or even a living lesson. It’s me working through the familiar feeling of frustration I’ve felt in the past when watching a beloved story decline before reaching the end, and an exercise for getting around that.

So yeah, lets talk about Game of Thrones season seven.

  1. This show has captured the lives of all those involved, for years. Fan fiction is the gift – the long kiss goodnight from the creators, to thank us for our loyalty. The 'proper' endings for all characters, will be revealed as it began, in writing.

  2. I don't agree that it was quite so bad as all that, but I'll concede that certain compromises may have been made with regard to the writing (SPECIFICALLY the writing) in the interest of drawing the series to a satisfying close. Overall though, the series remains immensely enjoyable, in my opinion.

  3. I think people feel this way because the writing has been a little weak (including pacing), but also the story is coming to an end and thing arent going as some may have imagined. There also seems to be a bias that since its George RR Martin isnt involved that it must be worse now. The showrunners are a big part in why the series was ever good in the first place, so I personally trust the decisions they make. Try to enjoy the series instead of complaining or wait until the books come out.

  4. Littlefinger's been portrayed as a cartoon baddy since season 1. In the books he's gregarious and well liked. When he winds up Renly or brags about his love conquests, people laugh along. In the show, the writers clearly thought the jokes were in poor taste and all his lines are delivered in a sly, odd accent and he's clearly a not to be trusted straight away. A wasted opportunity…

  5. I swear GRRM let the show get ahead of the books so he could test out an ending on HBOs dime. He's out of ideas and doesn't know the perfect way to tie it all together. So he let D&D try their hand and he will learn from their mistakes.

  6. I think (!) this show was always great, but in the end of s6 and all through s7 it has become what i always wanted, an epic fantasy saga. We are way into the final act now, there is no time for more politics and intrigue. This is heading for a perfect ending in my opinion, so at least i'm happy 😉 Now everybody calm down!

  7. The problem with unpredictability this far into the series is that if anymore main essential characters to the plot were to die(Jon, Danny, Cersei, Tyrion, Arya, Sansa, etc.) until season 8 is that the series would collapse in on itself with no more real plot to work with to an end game. In the beginning when we all thought ned was the hero he was beheaded, when we thought Robb and Catelyn would now be the heroes they were brutally executed along with the majority of the stark army. The series has definitely changed a lot since season 5 after the show diverged from the books but it is still entertaining even if all that is left is the emotional connection we had with these people. As predictability goes it is still unknown how the story could end which makes viewers just thirst for more…guess we will have to wait a few years to see.

  8. We're approaching the end, this is what the show promised us since season 1, the wars, Winter etc and we got exactly that. What did you expect ? You can't play mind games if their are no one to play anymore.
