Peter Dinklage has finally addressed what was going through Tyrion Lannister’s mind when he caught Daenerys Taragryen and Jon Snow in bed during the season seven finale of Game of Thrones.

After weeks of eyeing each other up, Jon and Dany finally had their night of passion – unaware that the Mother of Dragons is actually aunt to the King of the North, and what initially appeared like a beautiful romance was just a little bit gross.

While Jon and Dany got to it, Tyrion was shown hovering outside, looking particularly concerned and raising the question: what was he thinking?

‘Keep it down over there, I’m trying to get some sleep!’ Dinklage joked to Entertainment Weekly.

‘No, ah, it’s complicated. A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal. Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her — or thinks he does. She’s awe-inspiring.

‘He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there. And he loves Jon Snow, too. They’re the two people he has the most in common with, in a way — they’re both outsiders in their own families who have refused to follow the path their family has taken, and hopefully for the better.

‘He’s wondering how smart of a move [Jon and Dany getting romantically involved is], because passion and politics don’t mix well. He knows the two of them getting together could be very dangerous.’

Sadly, we’ve got a long wait until we see the repercussions of Jon and Dany’s blossoming romance as Game of Thrones appears to have been delayed again.

It’s been over a year since we were treated to the last episode of season seven and its dramatic wall-crumbling ending. While it may only seem like yesterday that we saw Jon and Daenerys get close on a boat and Littlefinger get into a little trouble at Winterfell, but the seventh episode of season seven originally aired way back on 27 August of last year.

An official release date is yet to be confirmed, but it now looks like we will have to wait till at least May 2019 to see any new Game of Thrones. HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys narrowed the show’s release window at the Television Critics Asssociation’s press tour in July.

‘We’re going to be toiling away on season eight until May of 2019, so it’s eight or nine months away,’ Bloys explained. ‘Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan [Weiss] and Dave [Benioff] [GoT showrunners] were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They’re perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with.’

Great.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
