For the pilot episode there was no Ser Gregor Clegane, sensing an opportunity to “cast early” I approached an Australia casting agent I knew and was given the go ahead to cast for Drogo. A few months later, after the show was green lit, I received an email saying you’ve already cast and we liked it, would you like to play Ser Gregor “The Mountain That Rides” Clegane. He actually looks like he could be The Hound's older brother and he was awesome in the episodes he showed up, this was pitch perfect casting. Too bad he couldn't come back.

We go to the same gym and I can say he's a pretty nice guy. Always smiling when people approach him. =)
Literally every person who played the Mountain, arguably the second-evilest character on the show, comes across as ridiculously nice in person and I wish them all good fortune in the wars to come.
Why was he recasted?
Best Mountain by miles.
The new one's fine too, but he just isn't that scary. You can tell he's just a big guy with muscles. Whereas Conan Stevens was absolutely terrifying as the Mountain, just imagine him doing the "I smashed her fucking head in" part.
He had the height (well, not quite like in the books, but it`s hard to find an actor who is 2,3 meters), the bulk and the voice.
The new guy is good too, but he was perfect.
The guy from Season 2 was terrible.
I can see you being Drogo, but you do have the size and strength and definitely did a great job playing the Mountain. I assume your traveling schedule is why they recasted you? You did a lot better than the 2nd. I felt the 2nd Mountain had the height but not the size, plus he had too many lines.
