Game of Thrones went into odd territory during seasons five and six, when Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) ventured into Braavos to train to become a Faceless Man. However, with the introduction of her training also came the introduction of the Waif (Faye Marsay), who eventually tried to kill her.
The Waif instantly became a constantly looming threat for Arya, as she attempted to train her by using brutal, physical force.
Arya didn’t do well with this method of teaching, as she eventually hit back out at the Waif, and lost her sight in return.
Eventually, Arya found her way out of the problematic situation by killing Waif, after weeks of being attacked.
Reddit viewers have since been poking around the episodes which introduced the Waif, and may have pointed out a plot hole concerning her character.

One fan wrote: “Also, the Waif transformed from an emotionless Faceless Man to a sadist b***h who has personal beef with Arya.”
When Arya arrived in Braavos she was introduced to the Waif by Jaqen H’Ghar (Tom Wlaschiha), who gave Arya a stark warning.
He told the youngster the Waif would have no problem killing her if the need arose.
However fans will remember this is not what happened, as the Waif ended up viciously torturing Arya through her training.
This detail about the culture then falls apart when looking at the Waif, however, as she wanted Arya to suffer.
One fan explained: “But she isn’t supposed to have emotions, she’s a Faceless Man.”
They then went on to suggest a reason for this writing choice, as they said: “Why does she hate Arya so much? I think that D&D just needed a villain for an episode.”
Could the Waif have been written so aggressively to give Arya a tangible antagonist in the fifth and sixth seasons?
