Game of Thrones is arguably one of the biggest TV shows to have ever blessed the small screens, and it had pushed the platform to new heights. Now, the show films for its eighth season, which is also the final season of the show, and we have been bringing you all the updates from the filming. While the show draws to a close, it today completes seven years on television. Read on!

The first ever episode of Game of Thrones, aired seven years ago, on April 17, 2011. The first episode was titled ‘Winter is coming‘, and that phrase has been true for the last 7 years. It has taken the entirety of this show for winter to arrive, and it is finally here. The show now being 7 years old is a milestone not only for Game of Thrones and HBO, but for television itself :

To put things in perspective, 2011 was a year when television was rather small, and then came Game of Thrones. The production quality and budget was way better than anything that we had ever seen. The show did face some criticism, but the overwhelming support it came to get changed everything. Seven years later, the response to this one show has forced the industry to grow in quality to a level where we are never short of good TV.

Speaking of Game of Thrones itself, the show is totally different from what it was seven years ago. Ned Stark isn’t the king, but he’s very, very dead, and so is his wife, and most of his family. Nobody we expected to sit on the throne has actually made their way there, and now as we wait for the final season, we are as clueless about how it will end, as we were when the show began.

Happy nameday, Game of Thrones. May you continue to live on through spin-offs and such. What do you guys think about this? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
