The “Game of Thrones” prequel is getting some news faces.
HBO and HBO Max have announced the casting of three additional actors for “House of Dragons,” a series based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.”
Matt Smith, whose famous roles include The Doctor on “Doctor Who” and a young Prince Phillip on Netflix’s “The Crown,” will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, King Viserys’ younger brother and the heir to the throne.
According to HBO, his character as “a peerless warrior and a dragonrider who possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air.”
“Bates Motel” actress Olivia Cooke will take on Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.
Per the description, she’s the “most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.”
And Emma D’Arcy from “Truth Seekers” will take on the role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Her character is described as “the king’s first-born child. She is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything…but she was not born a man.”
They join the previously announced Paddy Considine, who will play the role of King Viserys Targaryen.
“Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from “Game of Thrones,” good men do not necessarily make for great kings,” the character description notes.
The 10-episode first season takes place 300 years before the events of GOT and focus on the reign of House Targaryen.
“House of the Dragon” is set to air in 2022.
