Bloodmoon could explore how Lann the Clever established house Lannister (Picture: HBO/Backgrid)

Game of Thrones’ spin-off series Bloodmoon is shrouded in mystery but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating wildly about what it will be about.

George RR Martin’s Ice and Fire universe is an endless bounty of lore and mythology, giving us plenty of ideas to mull over as filming for the highly-anticipated show gets underway.

We know that Naomi Watts has been cast to play the lead role, but little information about the plot has been revealed at this point.

Fans have been speculating that the series will explore the foundation of House Lannister during the Age of Heroes, perhaps via the original inhabitants of Casterly Rock – House Casterly.

One fan over on Reddit theorises that the Aussie actress could be portraying a character from the books’ mythology called Florys the Fox.

According to A Wiki of Ice and Fire: ‘Florys the Fox is a legendary daughter of Garth Greenhand and the cleverest of his children.

‘According to myth, she kept three husbands, each ignorant of the existence of the other two.

‘Her sons became the founders of House Florent, House Ball and House Peake. In some tales of the Reach, Lann the Clever was a bastard born to Florys or her sister, Rowan Gold-Tree.’

Lann the Clever is, of course, the founder of House Lannister and the ancestor of the family we know in the series’ present timeline.

Reddit user TheOtherMe4, speculates: ‘There are some tales that state that Lann the Clever was the bastard of famous Garth the Greenhands’ daughters such as Florys the Fox or her sister, Rowan Gold-Tree.

‘Florys was said to be “the cleverest” of Garth’s daughters and somehow managed to have three husbands without any of them knowing, suggesting that she would probably have to lie about whom she is to keep the game going.

‘She also then eventually founds three houses: Florence, Ball, and Peake! As for Rowan, her story is seemingly about how her lover left her for a rich “rival” and this somehow pushed her to create House Rowan.

‘What’s curious about this, is that we have two instances of women (and sisters) founding houses, pointing to something a bit more progressive than either future Westeros depicts and/or the sexist culture would have us believe.’

Ok, we’re listening. That three husband business will make for some juicy drama.

The theory comes as Naomi was spotted filming the drama on location in Italy in an opulent gold dress.

Another leak from the set also showed a boat with a sigil which could be that of the early Starks.

Bloodmoon is currently in production for HBO.
