Another Game of Thrones spin-off is being discussed, this time set to focus on the founder and first king of the Targaryen dynasty, Aegon.

While never seen in the series, Aegon I Targaryen was the first king to sit on the Iron Throne and was mentioned throughout the seasons, as well as in House of the Dragon.

A warlord, Aegon had three great dragons and a small army before he went on to invade and then unify six of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros in the War of Conquest.

After that, he went on to found the city of King’s Landing, with some of his descendants including Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Aerys and Daenerys.

Now HBO is reported to be looking at the man who established the powerful dynasty with another prequel series.

It is set to follow ‘Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros’, as reported by Variety.

The publication has reported that the project is in the ‘very early stages’, and while no writer is currently attached, ‘sources say the search is underway’ and that the network is ‘keen to move forward and get it into development’.

There is also a chance the project may develop as a feature film, which could then lead into a potential series.

The show would tell the story of how Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, used their army and their three dragons to conquer six of the seven kingdoms on Westerosm with the exception of Dorne.

In doing so, Aegon I became the first king of Westeros, the first to sit on the Iron Throne, and the founder of the Targaryen Dynasty.

These events took place approximately 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

While several spin-off’s have been announced in the years since the original series first hit screens in 2011, the only one to move forward so far has been House of the Dragon.

The second season of that show is currently in production.

While there was a pilot developed about the Long Night, starring Naomi Watts, it was scrapped in 2019 on the same day that House of the Dragon was greenlit.

But despite the connection between her character Daenerys and House of the Dragon, which was set 172 years before Daenerys’ birth, Emilia Clarke revealed earlier this year that she thought it would be ‘too weird’ to tune in.

‘I’m so happy it’s happening. I’m over the moon about all the awards… I just can’t do it. It’s so weird. It’s so strange,’ she said.

She added it felt like someone was asking her to go to a school reunion that wasn’t her year and she was ‘avoiding it’ because of that.
