The Game Of Thrones prequel is going to be set 8000 years before the show and will feature an ‘ensemble’ cast of strong women.

HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys revealed some details about the show, which is set to start filming in Belfast.

He was full of praise for Jane Goldman’s script and said they didn’t want to ‘limit’ her by making the lead characters women. Okaaaay…

Bloys told Deadline: ‘There are very strong female characters but it’s an ensemble, there is men and women.

‘Jane is a very good writer, we don’t want to limit her to writing female leads.

‘There are a lot of very complicated leads in [the pilot]’.

The prequel will not feature any of the stars from Game Of Thrones, and will instead focus on Westeros’ past including ‘the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend’.

Bloys went on: ‘Jane did not go into that wanting to answer anything about Game of Thrones; it was the story that spoke to her.

‘It will feel different because it’s 8000 years before, it’s a very different setting, a very different time in Westeros.

‘It will feel different but still Game Of Thrones’.

Filming recently wrapped on the eighth and final season of the show, with cast and crew attending a wrap party in Belfast.

Star Sophie Turner recently dropped some details about the final season. Sophie, who plays Sansa Stark on the show, has revealed that fans are in for a ‘satisfying’ season eight.

And she’s aware of all your fan theories too, but thinks the show is going to surprise everyone with where the inhabitants of Westeros end up.

‘For me – without giving anything away, I guess – I was satisfied with how unpredictable the show’s ending really is,’ she told Digital Spy.

‘People have come up with so many fan theories about how it’s going to end, and who will end up where, and who will end up with who. It really is so unpredictable the way that it ends up. I’m very satisfied with that, and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that, too.’

Game Of Thrones is set to return in 2019.
