What happened to Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones.

Yara’s first appearance in the last series of Game of Thrones saw her pledge her allegiance to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in episode two, Stormborn.

Daenerys had gathered Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg), Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) and Yara in the hopes of uniting them against Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

All three Game of Thrones characters pledged their house’s allegiance to Daenerys.

Ellaria and Yara then set sail from Dragonstone to head back to Westeros but Euron Greyjoy had other ideas.

HOW LONG IS EACH EPISODE OF GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8?

Below deck, Yara and Ellaria began to get more comfortable with one another, all in plain sight of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen).

As passions began to boil over, they came under attack by a fleet of Greyjoy ships led by Euron.

Euron and his army boarded Yara’s vessel, killing members of the Dornish army and rival Greyjoy soldiers.

Wielding an axe, Euron began dismembering those who crossed his path before brutally murdering two of Ellaria’s daughters: Obara (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and Nymeria (Jessica Henwick).

At this point, Yara and Theon were fighting battles of their own against their former allies.

WHERE IS GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 FILMED?

Euron’s men headed below deck where they found Ellaria and her last surviving daughter Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers).

Despite Ellaria’s pleas to kill them both, Euron had other plans and, instead, captured them both.

Above deck, the majority of Yara and Ellaria’s fleet had fallen victim to Euron’s army.

Yara took it upon herself to fight Euron, attacking him with a knife but to no avail.

Euron grabbed hold of Yara while a helpless Theon looked on with the ultimate chance at redemption in front of him.

Instead of saving his sister, Theon threw himself into the sea and Euron captured Yara, Ellaria, and Tyene.

The next episode, The Queen’s Justice, is when we next see Yara.

In his desperate attempt for power, Euron led the trio through King’s Landing wrapped in chains.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 TRAILER BREAKDOWN

A boastful Euron embraced the crowds who cheered his name and shouted slurs at Yara and the Sands.

Asbaek’s character approached Cersei and offered her Ellaria and Tyene as a “gift”, in return, he was placed in charge of the Crown’s naval services.

Yara remained in Euron’s custody, however, with her uncle expressing his desire to administer his own punishment.

Satisfied with the Sands, Cersei allowed Euron to hold Yara captive and, as the pair left King’s Landing, it’s the last time Yara appears on-screen.

Her whereabouts remain unknown, as does a possible return for the character in season eight of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on Sunday, April 14 on HBO in the USA, and on Monday, April 15 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
