Game of Thrones distinctly followed the stories and lives of the Stark children throughout the eight seasons of the show.

Each of the family members had huge narrative arcs throughout the series, and all achieved different things.

However fans on the Game of Thrones Reddit have been pondering over the existence of Rickon Stark (played by Art Parkinson), and what he achieved throughout the show.

Fans of the show will remember Rickon was last seen in season six where he was brutally killed in Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

But before his death, fans have been wondering what he actually did in the show, with user JimmyNeon asking: “What was the point of Rickon at all?

“He was introduced as a little kid. Had little to no dialogue as far as I remember, disappeared for almost all seasons, then appeared again only to be killed by Ramsay in a way that served no purpose.

“He wasn’t even utilised as a plot device or anything, he was just cut off from the story unceremoniously.”

However another fan pointed out: “Well, as being the youngest Stark of Ned and Catelyn, I think they just used his storyline as part of the tragic tale of the Stark family.

“Not much of a: ‘He’ll do something great before his death’ – like Robb did – and more like: ‘He was a young, loved and unprotected child who was caught up in the misfortunes of war.’”

This certainly checks out, as Robb Stark (Richard Madden) spent a long time as King of the North before being killed off by the Boltons.

The user went on to add Rickon merely served as “leverage for the rest of the Starks,” and made the battle between Jon and Ramsey that much more tense.

However another user simply joked Rickon was around in the show to “remind people to always zig-zag.”

Meanwhile, other users have been working hard to figure out how Jon Snow (Kit Harington) could have gotten out of being trapped at the Wall for the rest of his days.

After killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) Jon was sent to the Wall, but fans think he could have avoided it all if he simply told them the truth about his heritage.

The fact that he is a secret Targaryen works in this favour immensely, and could have stopped the worst happening, as one fan wrote.

However, there may have been war, they continued, adding: “The Dothraki and Unsullied would want war.

“Them, and a lot of others, would believe he killed her just to be king. Might not look good.

“Had Tyrion [Peter Dinklage] or Sansa [Sophie Turner] brought it up at the meeting, maybe a different story there.”

But would this discussion have saved Jon from his ultimate fate?

Game of Thrones is available for digital download now.
