I'm a history buff who's quite tired of fantasy stories taking place in Anglo, Scottish, or Scandinavian like settings. Why not take inspiration from Byzantium, or better yet Lithuania. An ancient country struggling to protect their culture that is 1,000's of years old makes for an awesome fantasy setting.
