Honoring Ray Stevenson’s Legacy
Ray Stevenson’s portrayal of Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka Season 1 was widely praised, with many considering him one of the standout elements of the series. His commanding presence and nuanced performance made Baylan a compelling figure, and his sudden passing left fans wondering how the show would move forward. Showrunner Dave Filoni acknowledged the challenge of recasting the role (via IGN), emphasizing that Stevenson had set a high standard. However, Filoni expressed confidence that McCann would honor Stevenson’s legacy while bringing his own interpretation to the character.
Fans have mixed feelings about Rory McCann’s casting
While there’s no doubt that Rory McCann has the acting chops to pull off such a grave character, fans were skeptical about the casting. While many liked the idea, some felt like the character should’ve been put to rest to honor Ray Stevenson.
Would have been more legendary to have the character die off with the actor passing

They should of just had Baylan the character die after the first season to end the story due to Rays tragic passing but I understand why they decided to replace and continue his character story.

Ray’s absence will be deeply felt, but Rory McCann stepping in as Baylan feels like a choice made with care.
Can’t wait to see how he honors the character while making it his own.
