He' probably one of the greatest secret keepers in media history.

Man Targaryens really are their own worst enemies. They lost most of their power and almost went extinct after the dance of dragons and Robert Baratheon, a man who has multiple generations of Targaryen blood in his family, tried to wipe them out again.

This scene takes on a whole new meaning now that we know for certain he was protecting Jon/Aegon from Robert.

i have such a new level of respect for Ned now! it all makes sense.

man i could watch these 2 characters (and the same actors) and entertained as much as any episode of the show entertains me. they dont even have to fight people either, i would just watch conversations. some of the best scenes in the show without a doubt.

Ned was trying to protect the Targaryen's because of Jon. He didn't want Jon's aunt and uncle murdered. T__T

There's so much in these early scenes that you can pick up on during a second viewing, especially now that so much of the story has unfolded.

Why can't Robert just send Tywin Lannister and Stannis Baratheon with 200,000 men and take care of Daenerys the old-fashioned way? At the very least he could have used the Lannisters as meat-shields against the Dorthraki considering he married Tywin's daughter. He is the king, after all. Being the king means you can get others to do things for yourself.
