It’s endgame time for the Avengers and the stars of the Seven Kingdoms in 2019 (Marvel/HBO)

Game of Thrones season eight and the Avengers franchise look set to end within three weeks of each other in summer 2018.

After months of speculation, HBO trotted out the Stark family (Jon, Arya and Sansa were all together in one scene, finally!) to reveal that the final series of the fantasy drama will begin on Sunday 14 April.

Fans put their thinking caps on and deduced that this means the show is likely to end (sob, we’re not ready to say goodbye) six weeks and six feature-length episodes later sometime around Sunday 19 May.

That’s just about three weeks after the release of Avengers: Endgame, the film that seems set to bring about the end of the Marvel Universe as we know it.

We’re not sure we’re ready for so much change in such a short space of time.

HBO teased the upcoming eighth and final season’s release date with an eerie trailer, which featured Jon (Kit Harington), Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) coming together in the tunnels beneath Winterfell. The siblings (or should we say sisters and their cousin?) eyed up eerie statues of themselves before turning to face the menacing cold mist, which represents those pesky White Walkers.

The stars of the show are keeping tight-lipped about what we can expect from the final season, but we do know that it’ll bring Jon, Sansa and Daenerys together for the first time.

We’ve also been told that Jon will discover the truth about his parentage, which is sure to make things awkward for him and his aunt/new lady love Daenerys. They’ve got no idea that they’re related so we’re guessing there are a few difficult dinner table conversations to be had – even if they’ve been given a hall pass for their antics.

Of course if a fan theory about his identity turns out to be true, he may well forced to make a drastic decision that brings and end to their incestuous ways anyway.

Game of Thrones returns to TV screens in the UK and USA on Sunday 14 April.
