Did Samwell Tarly just sign his own death warrant? (Picture: HBO)

Samwell Tarly has always been one to hit us right in the heart, but his latest kind gesture in Game of Thrones was the kind of sweet moment we will never forgive him for.

***Warning: Game Of Thrones spoilers ahead***

On the eve of the War of Winterfell, Samwell is seen handing over family heirloom, the sword Heartsbane, to Jorah Mormont.

Made of Valyrian steel, the sword is one of few that have the potential to kill a White Walker, and so on top of saving his life from the greyscale that could’ve killed him, may have just given him another life line.

Touched by his generosity, especially after Jorah and Sam discovered his oldest friend Daenerys put the strike out on Sam’s brother Dickon and father Randyll.

In a moment of touching sweetness, Jorah promised to dedicate his time in battle, and the sword, to Jeor Mormont, his biological father, and father figure for Sam.

For those not in the know, Heartsbane has a particular special place for the well-meaning Samwell, with his father Randyll wielding it before it came to him.

Randyll, who was cold-hearted and callus at the best of times, disowned Sam when he realised his relationship with wildling Gilly.

Vowing it would never leave Sam’s family home of Horn Hill, Sam eventually stole the blade and made a run for it with Gilly and her son.

Heartsbane is of some decent worth, and was previously used by ‘Savage Sam’ Tarly generations before Samwell.

So naturally, people had feelings as the final scenes unfolded before the battle of Winterfell began.

The next episodes are promising to be tearjerkers as the Battle of Winterfell begins.

With the White Walkers arriving any moment now, we already know nobody makes it out alive.

Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
