Sansa’s definitely not a naive girl anymore (Picture: HBO)

Sophie Turner has keeping the fate of Game of Thrones as closely a guarded secret as we’ve come to expect from the squad – but every now and again little hints slip through.

It’s pretty fair to say that Sansa Stark has been through the ringer over the past seven seasons, and is no longer the daydreaming daughter of Ned anymore.

However, she’s managed to rise stronger than ever and is now a fierce and loyal leader – and Sophie is saying that she will now lead Winterfell to greatness.

The character is now the ‘true’ leader of Winterfell (Picture: HBO)

Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: ‘She is so empowered. She has a family behind her. She has Littlefinger, Cersei, Margaery, everyone’s wisdom and teachings all behind her.’

‘She’s a real, true leader of Winterfell now,’ she added. ‘And that’s where we first see her – as a very protective, empowered lady in charge. It’s the first time you ever see her like that, and it’s so amazing to see her like that – kind of owning her destiny.’

The young character has been struck through a series of horrific storylines over the past seven seasons (Picture: HBO)

Sansa started life as a young girl wanting nothing but to marry the prince and fall into the stereotypical ideals of what a woman is supposed to be. Now, she stands shoulder-to-shoulder with her brother in battle.

Over the seasons we’ve seen the character beaten down, married off against her will, raped, and manipulated by all those around her.

And now she’s in charge and everyone knows it.

She added: ‘It is just such a drastically different Sansa that the one that I play today – I almost don’t recognise her.

‘Every single season, she just – for me – gets better and better and better. She’s just a joy. She’s just a progressive joy.’

We can’t wait to see how great she becomes next year.

Game of Thrones airs in April next year.
