Game of Thrones was brought to an end with a brutal collection of events.

After finally confronting Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey) Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) set King’s Landing ablaze with her pet dragon, Drogon.

Even though Cersei eventually surrendered, Daenerys continued the onslaught, and razed the entire city to the ground.

The following episode saw the fallout from this harrowing event – but as the characters discussed what had gone on, a seemingly endless amount of ash descended from the skies.

However it has now been revealed this was not in fact ash, but snow.

After being nominated for an Emmy, the script for season eight, episode six was released online, allowing viewers to pore through each page for hidden secrets.

One of the finer details from the final episode’s script showed off Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) walking through the ravaged streets of King’s Landing, while being covered in snow on the way.

Many viewers were quite shocked by this detail, as it was hugely implied this white substance falling from the sky was ash, following the burning of the city, and indeed millions of people.

The ash (or snow) was also hinted in Daenerys’ vision back in season two, leaving viewers even more confused.

Discussing the event on Reddit, one viewer wrote: “I thought those white flakes were ash.”

Another said: “It was always snow, thats what Emilia called it in the commentary.”

While one commented: “Everyone was talking about Dany’s descent being ‘foreshadowed’ with the ash… and it actually ended up being snow.”

That wasn’t the only detail found in the script, however, as viewers also pointed out something interesting about Samwell Tarly (John Bradley).

Fans will recall Samwell arrived at the small council in the final scenes dressed as a Maester – despite never truly becoming one.

He was even wearing a Maester’s chain, the ceremonial piece of jewellery that shows off his rank in the organisation.

However the script reveals this chain only consists of a “healing link”, explaining how he got it so quickly.

The only way Sam would have received this healing link is if he explained how he cured Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) of his Greyscale back in season six.

This had never been done before, and would certainly have rewarded him with the link.

On the subject, one viewer wrote: “At least he didn’t randomly earn a full chain. Still don’t understand how a one link novice becomes Grand Maester but oh well.”

Another added: “Shouldn’t he have one for Raven handling at least? Oh well, guess he forgot about his time at the wall. He surely forgot all about oaths.”
