Game of Thrones has officially wrapped up filming which means the fates of the heroes and villains of Westeros are now signed, sealed and delivered while we only have an agonising eight months to learn the results.

Arya Stark is the nimble warrior whose future arguably raises the most questions for the cycle ahead after finally reuniting with her Stark family in season seven, bringing her treacherous and bloody journey to Winterfell to a head.

Now, a new and highly plausible theory has suggested that Arya will be one of the few Game of Thrones warriors who may actually find herself at the end of this tale with a happy conclusion as a Holdfast Lord.

Reddit user u/aroseil2 wrote: ‘I’m wondering about foreshadowing in the scene where Arya meets her direwolf Nymeria on her way back to Winterfell.

‘I just thought the dynamic of the wolves surrounding Arya menacingly and then Nymeria stepping in as queen of the pack was interesting.’

They went on: ‘After the encounter you hear Arya say “that’s not you”, referring back to when her father told her she was supposed to become a lady.

‘Arya will never take up a noble position.’

Among the craziest season eight theories out there, according to fans, this appears to have the most legs.

‘Later in the season, it’s interesting to consider the dialogue where Arya plainly points out (perhaps to her own ironic end), the world doesn’t just let girls choose who they want to be,’ agreed DutchArya on Reddit.

‘I don’t know why people insist that these characters will get endgames they always wanted and expected.

‘That doesn’t seem like GRRM’s style of even the way the show is likely to end.’

Maisie Williams confirmed she’d finished filming Game of Thrones earlier this month with a suitably gory photo on Instagram of her trainers covered in blood.

Alongside the snap, she wrote: ‘goodbye belfast. goodbye arya. goodbye game of thrones. what a joy i’ve had. here’s to the adventures to come. #lastwomanstanding #barely#immasleepforthenextfouryears#justkiddingidontsleep,’ alluding that she will be fighting right up to the very end.

Game of Thrones season 8 arrives to HBO and Sky Atlantic in April 2018.
