There’s no shortage of massive, fire-breathing reptiles on Game Of Thrones, but season eight could feature the biggest one yet.
According to eagle-eyed fan site Winter is Coming, a large dragon rig has been spotted at Titanic Studios in Belfast (where the King’s Landing set is situated).
Pictures of the huge rig were uploaded by a fan to Twitter, who pointed out that the fluorescent green apparatus looks very similar to equipment used previously by Emilia Clarke – who plays dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen on the show.
The photo shows the top part of the enormous rig, and the fan has added annotations which show where the rider would sit. We’re no experts but it looks like this dragon has one exceptionally long neck.
It’s also important to note that the rig isn’t on the actual King’s Landing set yet, just in Titanic Studios.
It’s taken seven seasons for Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal to reach their current size, but it seems the Mother of Dragons’ monster pets aren’t done growing yet.
Of course, Viserion was claimed by the Night King in the last series, so he may not mature at the same rate as the other two.
Will his dark master use magic to increase his already mammoth size?
Remember, no one has ridden Rhaegal yet, so if this rig was to show Daenerys’s lesser-known, scaly offspring it would be the first time she’s taken to the skies on Rhaegal’s back.
Of course, it might not be only Clarke who uses the rig during shooting – after all, Kit Harrington’s character Jon Snow (he knows nothing) was revealed as the rightful Targaryen heir during the last series and the dragons were more accepting of his presence than other humans.
It’s difficult to work out if this newly pictured rig is actually bigger than others used on the show before. But looking at this fan’s annotations, it would definitely seem to suggest so.
You’ll just have to wait and see.
Game Of Thrones season eight is scheduled for release in 2019.
