Game of Thrones season eight kicked off tonight and it didn’t take long before Daenerys Targaryen fell from grace for fans.
The Mother of Dragons (played by Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) finally arrived into Winterfell, and immediately viewers were sobbing over reunions they’d been so desperately spending the past two years waiting for.
However, Dany didn’t make the best first impression with Jon’s nearest and dearest.
Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Arya (Maisie Williams) couldn’t have been colder, but it was Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) who really pulled on our heart strings when he discovered his best mate’s new girlfriend executed his father and brother for refusing to bend the knee.
In turn, Sam got his own back by telling Jon he’s actually the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, not only making the Bastard of Winterfell (who’s not actually a bastard at all) the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, but he’s also Dany’s nephew.
The news came as a huge low for Jon, and rightly so. But will he turn on his queen?
As Sam wept so did fans watching at home and Daenerys immediately became public enemy number one.
But Sam wasn’t the only one shedding buckets, as fans had tears streaming down their face before a word had even been spoken over the brand new title sequence, which appeared to confirm the Stark family crypt will play a big part in the final five episodes left to come.
Game of Thrones season 8 continues next Sunday on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV. Seasons one to seven are currently available to stream on NOW TV.
