The hit HBO series is largely filmed in Northern Ireland at the Titanic Studios and new sets were said to have been built for the final series.

But due to Storm Ophelia, it has been reported that construction has been halted meaning Game of Thrones could be delayed.

According to fan site Watchers on the Wall, fences surrounding the studios have also been damaged by the unprecedented weather.

BBC weatherman Barra Best took to Twitter to reveal that filming has also been suspended on Krypton.

“Filming suspended for TV show, Krypton, in Belfast because of storm #Ophelia. Set building for also halted, source tells me,” he tweeted.

It comes after Los Siete Reinos reported that a new set was being built in the car park of the studios.

Photos obtained by Watchers on the Wall reveal a building with a winding staircase going to the top of the wall.

Fans are speculating that the new set could be the entrance to a large building in Westeros.

It is also rumoured to have undergone a controlled fire test suggesting Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) and her dragons will be wreaking havoc once more.

Game of Thrones season eight is expected to return to Sky Atlantic in 2019.
