Did Drogon eat his mum? (Picture: HBO)

***If you still haven’t watched the finale of Game Of Thrones, beware, there are spoilers within***

New evidence suggests that Game Of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen might have been eaten by her pet dragon at the end of season eight.

The finale episode of the HBO franchise saw the character, played by Emilia Clarke, killed off by her lover and relative Jon Snow (Kit Harington), before a devastated Drogon entered the room to find his mum’s lifeless body.

Heartbroken by Dany’s fate, the beast burned the Iron Throne with a furious fireball and then flew east towards Essos.

But what happened after remained a mystery and there’s a good chance that he might have eaten her.

Dr Carolyn Rando, a forensic anthropologist at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, told HuffPost that Dany being chewed up and swallowed by Drogon cannot be ruled out.

Although Drogon had been raised with love and affection, it isn’t uncommon for pets to eat their deceased owners and she said it ‘probably happens more than we think.’

‘When you look at the case studies, it’s very specific conditions,’ Rando added. ‘So someone lived alone, not a lot of friends came by the house, they died of natural causes, the pets couldn’t get out of the house.

‘There’s no food in the house. Those types of things.’

If Drogon did eat Dany, it could have been by complete accident too as he might have been checking she was alright.

‘[Animals] tend to lick, and there’s a lot of blood and then eating might happen, but more out of just stress or something like that,’ Rando explained.

He might have just got carried away…

The fate of Dany’s body remains a complete mystery and we’re not sure we’ll be able to sleep at night not knowing what could have really happened, TBH.

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
