Game of Thrones season 8 is the most heavily guarded secret since the resurrection of Jon Snow.
And it’s no wonder, as Peter Dinklage has insisted that not only are we in for the greatest six episodes of television ever – a bold but probably accurate assumption – but despite the countless fan theories circling the internet, absolutely none of us are prepared for what’s in store.
‘I think it’s going to be the best season of television anyone has ever seen,’ the 49-year-old told The Belfast Telegraph. ‘It takes you to a place that you never saw coming, that I didn’t see coming and just, yeah, be prepared. It’s a fun ride.’
Dinklage was speaking from the premiere of his new HBO movie, My Dinner with Hervé, where he was joined by co-star Emilia Clarke, and stars in the titular role of the James Bond actor, Hervé Villechaize.
There, he also hailed the final chapter for his character, Tyrion Lannister, as ‘beautiful’. Though, he warned fans not to expect a happy ending.
‘There are no better writers in television than [showrunners] Dan Weiss and David Benioff,’ he told Entertainment Tonight.
‘They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could have imagined and you people are in for it.’
He teased: ‘It ends beautifully for my character, whether it be tragic or not.’
Dinklage was recently forced to shut down a popular Game of Thrones fan theory – which he accidentally started during the acceptance speech for his latest Emmy Award.
The GoT fandom has been obsessed with the idea of a third Targaryen sibling in the midst since Daenerys heard in a vision: ‘The dragon has three heads.’
In turn, all eyes have been pointing at Tyrion.
So, when the actor got on stage to add another gold statuette to his collection, and gave a shout out to co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau by referring to him as ‘my brother from another mother’, all hell broke loose.
‘I love all of that,’ he chuckled on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. ‘I like to think that I would be smart enough not to just blurt out spoilers in front of the four viewers of the Emmys.’
Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and HBO in 2019.
