Game of Thrones fans have been warned that a ‘bittersweet’ conclusion will wrap up season eight and naturally speculation has gone wild.
Right now Daenerys Targaryen is the firm favourite to get the chop when the fantasy epic returns next year, but George RR Martin has a habit of throwing out the rule book and, in turn, one fan has spelled out how Jon Snow’s death is basically a done deal.
Redditor VixToonsDesign has predicted Jon Snow will die in one of the epic battles promised ahead of Game of Thrones’ final chapter because, if history were to repeat itself, we should start mourning the King of the North already.
They wrote: ‘No one wins. They don’t defeat the army of the dead. They can’t and never did.
‘History has been manipulated to tell the story and create the hero’s but the truth is the army of the dead marched forward until the wall was created to stop them.’
We know The Night King will take centre stage this season as the white army rise up for another shot at conquering the light.
‘And this time it’s going to be the same,’ the fan went on.
‘The forces against the dead will be pushed back and forced to retreat and once they realise they cannot win they will build a wall (dragons) to try and keep them out again with the dead now managing to occupy a greater percentage of Westeros.
‘Jon Snow dies utterly in vein as he dies to try and win an unbeatable war.
‘Destruction, devastation just like any other war. There are no winners only survivors.’
The Reddit user added: ‘The threat of the dead managing to again figure out a way through the wall remains with the potential for the future them taking over the entire continent.
‘Jon goes down in history as the hero but again, he died to try and save everyone but he didn’t win any war. Bittersweet. His is the song of Ice and fire.’
Great.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in April 2019.
