Game of Thrones fans can finally rejoice as we have an actual huge spoiler confirmed for season 8.
A major character is returning to the fantasy epic for its final chapter as Jon Snow is reunited with his direwolf, Ghost.
‘Oh, you’ll see (Ghost) again,’ Game of Thrones’ visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer told The Huffington Post. ‘He has a fair amount of screen time in Season 8.’
He added: ‘(Ghost is) very present and does some pretty cool things in Season 8.’
Jon, who at the time was believed to be Ned Stark’s illegitimate son, alongside the Stark children were given a litter of wolves – of which just Jon’s Ghost and Arya’s Nymeria are still standing.
Bauer also explained why the wolves have barely appeared throughout Game of Thrones, despite being central players in George RR Martin’s literary series.
He told the publication the surviving direwolves are a struggle to work with on screen because HBO use footage of real wolves, which can ‘only behave in certain ways’.
‘I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books,’ he elaborated.
The stars of Game of Thrones are remaining frustratingly tight-lipped about the looming cycle ahead, though Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner did let slip how the very final page read, and it is emotional AF.
‘I think, you know, as an actor it was really satisfying – I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines – to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us,’ Turner told IGN.
‘Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think.
‘I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking to read at the very final page of the script it just says, “End of Game of Thrones”. That was really emotional.’
Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
