Game of Thrones fans think Littlefinger will be back to kill Sansa Stark (Picture: HBO)

Game of Thrones fans have come up with a grim AF theory which would bring back Littlefinger and is already at the very top of things we don’t need in 2019.

Back in season seven, after falling for his lies time and time again, Sansa Stark said Thank U, Next to Lord Petyr Baelish when she turned the tables and got her little sister Arya Stark to slit his throat and it was a celebration all around.

Well, you might want to take it all back.

One fan on Reddit noted that Sansa is now the safest resident of Westeros, with few enemies and Brienne of Tarth ‘sworn to protect her’, so surely she’s got an easy ride in season eight, right?

‘The only person who posed a threat to her was Littlefinger… and well…,’ agreed one Redditor, until the next post sparked all sorts of speculation we just weren’t ready for.

‘Littlefinger isn’t dead,’ they wrote. ‘He sensed the end was near and paid a faceless man to die in his place. You can see the muffled conversation and exchange of payment in S7E5.’

And the Game of Thrones fandom is going off.

‘Dude…. I thought that was a random minion helping him get a hold of Sansa’s letter. Damn. I hated that guy,’ cried one Reddit user, while another was well up for it, adding: ‘I really hope this is true and he ends up on the iron throne.’

But could they really go there? Why would one of the faceless men willingly have their throat slit?

‘The faceless men never did make a whole lot of sense. Their rules are vague and could easily be changed,’ explained one more fan.

Oh…

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
