Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere breaks previous viewership records

We had reported back at the beginning of Season 8 that the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere episode had gained a viewership figure of 17.4 million, counting the live TV audience, as well as HBO Go and HBO Now viewers, within 24 hours of airing. Guinness World Records, in collaboration with Parrot Analytics, got into the nitty-gritty of the analytics behind the premiere.

The analytics firm has used its own brand of measurement of television content demand to determine how much the premiere was in demand, and the conclusive figure says 25.46 demand expressions per capita, which is apparently quite high. Samuel Stadler, VP of Marketing, Parrot Analytics commented:

“The final season has premiered 2.9% higher globally than its season seven premiere. Premiere day demand has been particularly strong in the United States, United Kingdom and France.”

Craig Glenday, Editor in Chief at Guinness World Records added:

“It comes as no surprise. Game of Thrones has its fans tightly clenched in its dragon-like grip, and excitement for this final series has seen phenomenal engagement across every platform. It has broken records since it first aired – for its viewership figures, Emmy wins, and even its status as the most pirated TV show! It looks like it’s going to continue breaking records right up to the final, undoubtedly devastating episode.”

The show also simulcasts in 173 countries worldwide, which gives it another of its many world records. What do you guys think about this? Will the finale beat records, too? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
