for reals, katlyn's dumb ass caused the entire downfall of House Stark
I love the hate you have for catelyn…because i hate her too. Her only redeeming quality is the love she bears her children. If i could bring one person back in the show then it would be catelyn, just so i could she her face when she finds out that the boy she hated so vehemently because he was the bastard of her husband is actually her husbands nephew and the rightful heir to the iron throne.
Could the Tyrion line to Jon about losing a family and gaining a new one also be a reference to what happens to Benjin? Because right after Tyrion says it Jon looks over at Benjin, and we all know what happens to Benjin "Coldhands" Stark.
Discarding your family and get a new one referred to Tyrion discarding his own family and joining Dany.
At some point, Jon says that he is not permitted to sit with his siblings and the Baratheons during the feast at Winterfell because he is a "b*****d". Yet, the irony is he is a potential royal b*****d, and may even be the legitimate heir to the throne. It is the Lannister children who were illegitimate, being the products of incest. Perhaps the payoff scene is still to come.
Also, the reference to a "trade-off" for a new family could equally apply to Tyrion Lannister, whom we know feels ostracised by his own family. This reaches a head in season 4 when he is forced to flee King's Landing from his sister. It is possible that the scene foreshadows Benjen's secret, but also Tyrion's destiny, as someone who is forced to abandon his family and seek a new alliance with Daenerys Targeryan, who later makes him Hand of the Queen.
Catelyn was awful to Jon, and I think this will be the downfall of Sansa, they're very similar. She's betrayed Jon twice already since the reunion. Only left behind because, "There must always be a Stark at Winterfell", nothing more… she's not a ruler. Compare her to Cersei, Dany, Yara, Margaery, Olenna, or any of the Sands. No way she survives.
Tyrion comment to Jon about "discard your old family and get a new one" is foreshadowing for Tyrion more than Jon. Tyrion kills his father and joins an army to conquer Cersei. The comment takes on even more meaning if it turns out that Tyrion is part Targaryen. Also, Benjen's reaction shot leads us to wonder why he discarded his family–did it have to do with Jon's parentage?
Chris, you missed the hidden symbolism in the interesting segue between the scene where Dany and Khal Drogo are getting it on and the next one with Jon and Tyrion on their way to the wall!
Look again at the cuts between the dragon eggs surrounded by candles, the sex, Dany looking at fire + eggs, then we see flames which are revealed to be a camp fire and immediately the camera view pans up to Jon…I used to think this hinted that Jon would be resurrected in fire like Dany, but since that didn't happen last season it might be a hint at him being able to ride a dragon…also it's a subtle hint at his heritage since we see a Targaryen (Dany) conceiving a child with a non-Targaryen, paralleling R+L!
I posted the clip on my channel a year ago when I had my original theory: https://youtu.be/z-K7LfV29ts
Rewatch it and tell me what you think
people talk about Jon and Dany getting together and living happily ever together. I don't see what either of them would find attractive about the other. Jon is no Daario or Khal Drogo and Ygritte reminds me more of Arya then Dany. And the way Ghosts acts around Borroq's Boar will be the same if he ever gets near a Dragon. Am i crazy here?
I'm getting emotional watching Jon and Robb together. I never noticed how much they looked alike.
i love this series and channel!
Enjoying these Smokescreen! Keep it coming.
Oh cool! When did they confirm RLJ? Can't wait to see that!
I did see the one where they confirmed Lyanna as the mother, but nothing more.
Can't please everyone, but I appreciate this, get a quick review of past episodes without having to re watch them. Thank you Chris😍
When Tyrion said what he did about casting off the old family and taking up a new one, though it might mean Jon, I believe it might pertain ultimately to Tyrion's future in that he casts off the Lannister family name and takes up with the Targaryens in becoming Dany's Hand of the King and trusted advisor. Don't know if that means anything, but that's what I thought of first when you pointed to it.
jon should be the most powerful person with stark and targaryen blood combine
I can't remember which episode, either this one or the last one, but before Jon leaves for the night's watch jaime says to him "don't worry, it's only for life" in a joking way, but I think back to that scene when I think about how Jon decided he wasn't in the watch anymore because he did, in fact, die
I was thinking the part where Jon says to Bran about going walking North of the wall maybe when Bran is back South of the wall Jon will go back North and maybe Bran will skinchange into Ghost since sadly Summer is gone (which happens around the time winter comes… Summer is gone and winter is here) to protect Jon in the only way he can which would technically be Bran and Jon walking North of the wall or maybe since they just missed each other when Bran was going North and Jon was coming South that theyll miss each other again when Jon is going North and Bran is going South… My wording is a little confusing but Im sure you'll see what I mean
there was another line I thought was interesting. when Ned and John part ways Ned tells him next time we see each other in will tell you about your mother. I've always thought that his intention was to wait till after he took his oath making him no threat to robert
I think for the "Starks are hard to kill" you should've reference everytime 1 of them (Jon, Bran, Benjen, Arya, Sansa) have actually escaped death
I'm thinking Podrick is a Lannister plant…
Chris? Or is it Kris? Do you think there is a bit of a connection too in Robert asking Ned what Wylla looked like as he never told her and Robert in the crypt saying he can barely remember what Lyanna looked like? Since we now know they are the the lied about and the true mother of JS?
Robb and Jon farewell: Next time I see you, you will be all in black…
I think, it is a foreshadowing, too. In the books, Jon was already dreamt himself, fighting against the dead with a flaming sword, in an armor made of black ice (Azor Ahai). I think, they will be the point, when they will see each other again. But the "all in black" won't be the Nightswatch-black, it will be the Azor Ahai-black armor in the end.
What about Tyrion discarding his own family? The part about getting "a whole new one" might be a bit of a stretch. He doesn't have a new family per say but he is now loyal to House Targareyan. Some people think that he might be part Targareyan so if that proves to be true then the line would definitely have more meaning.
In the book all of Daenerys' hair had burnt and a dragon was sucking her breast. I wonder why they changed this for the TV show, hmmm….
Thank you for making this series Chris. I am totally geeking out on them! Can't wait until we can do in depth Maggie the Frog talk!
You're right – Littlefinger & Cate Stark are responsible for most, if not all, of the crap in Westeros.
Love it. Cat was a bitch. She could never had kept that secret. Do you think she could or treated Jon better?
Kris my favorite scene of foreshadowing is when maester aemon tells Sam that a targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing right after he says this Jon walks in the room I forget which season or episode that was but please include that buddy!!!
sooo weird, I just started rewatching GOT season 1… your "what we missed videos" are perfect right now! after each episode, I watch your channel. thank you!
throwing shade at Catelyn and Little Finger! priceless!!
Thanks SmokeScreen, appreciate all the work you are putting in. Excellent work.
Q&A: okay first off i literally watch every video you post!! lol ok
but besides that… do you think winterfell is call winterfell because
that is where "winter fell" and the long night ended? maybe jon finds
not only the history of his lineage in the crypts but find an ancient
tool that he would use to defeat the "others"? make any sense to you
brotha???
