Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister in the HBO fantasy drama, has suggested that his character could meet an icy death in the battle with the White Walkers.

In a recent interview, the 47-year-old actor teased his own demise while fighting the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and his army of the undead.

“The fear is that I would be turned into one of those undead. That would suck. You know some of the main characters are going to get turned,” he explained, hinting that it could be ice rather than fire that would be his downfall.

The Danish star went on to joke: “There are going to be some blue-eyed main characters running around.”

“And, god, I hope it’s not me. That’s three hours of make-up in the morning. I know that if [Game of Thrones’ showrunners] David Benioff and Dan Weiss read this, they’ll go, ‘Oh, yes we will’.”

In the recent Game of Thrones finale – called The Dragon and The Wolf – the Kingslayer was seen disobeying his sister and lover Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) as he abandoned her and headed North to fight in the Great War.

Reflecting on Jaime’s state of mind at the end of season seven, Nikolaj told Esquire: “He’s like, ‘I have to do this.’ He truly believes that we all have to fight this thing. This is humanity at stake. We’ll either have living or dead conquering the world.”

Nikolaj’s words suggest that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will accept Jaime’s offer to help fight the White Walkers when he reaches Winterfell.

The interview hints that this could finally be it for Jaime after seven seasons that have seen him transformed from a villain to an unexpected hero.

Then again, Nikolaj has previously teased the end of Jaime which have not materialised – particularly in season seven when the knight was nearly burnt to a crisp by a dragon during the Battle of Blackwater Rush.

Jaime was saved at the last moment by sellsword Bronn (Jerome Flynn) but the last season of Game of Thrones will undoubtedly see some fan favourites perish – and Jaime could be part of the body count.

Game of Thrones will return with season 8.
