Petyr Baelish (played by Aidan Gillen) is easily one of the most slippery individuals in the whole series.
He’s a despicable character who people love to hate, and fans rejoiced when he was killed off in season seven.
However, they might be upset and shocked to see him return in the final season if this new fan theory is to be believed.
The theory suggests that Petyr, also known as Littlefinger, managed to fake his own death in the most incredible way.
Many fans will be asking themselves how on earth he managed to pull off such an impossible feat, and the answer is really quite incredible.
Littlefinger was talking to Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) and offered him his dagger which once belonged to the assassin who was paid to kill him off.
However, during Littlefinger’s rather long-winded speech, Bran said the line, “Chaos is a ladder,” which is something that Petyr had said earlier on in the series.
From this moment on, Littlefinger understands what Bran can do, and he’s onto him, which then gets him into major planning mode.
Petyr realises that his life is in danger and starts to plan for the worst possible outcome: his assassination.
In episode five of season seven, Petry is seen handing a iron coin to a mysterious blonde woman.
She also says something in his ear, which some fans have speculated is her telling Petyr: “Your time is up.”
Who is this woman, why is Petyr giving her a coin and why is his time up? These are all questions fans have been asking themselves, and the answer is rather shocking.
It’s been posited that the woman Petyr meets is actually a Faceless Man and that Petyr is paying this person with a special iron coin of the Faceless Men.
It is not a coin for buying things, but rather denotes association with the organisation of the Faceless Men, and is of great value to them.
Furthermore, despite that fact that he claimed to Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) he’d only heard of the Faceless Men through reputation, earlier on in the series, Litterfinger revealed that he had a great Grandfather from Braavos.
Who comes from Bravos? The Faceless Men, which suggests that Petyr knows very well who they are and what they can do.
The theory suggests that the woman took Petry’s place and that he left Winterfell in episode five.
Therefore, it was not Petyr who had his throat slit by Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) in episode seven.
This means that Petyr could come back in season eight and really ruffle up a few feathers.
It would undoubtedly be a moment to behold in season eight and would shock fans the world over.
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 14. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
