Game of Thrones season eight will be the last of the series, yet it also promises to be the very best.
Fans are desperate to find out how it all ends, and there has been a lot of talk of an epic final battle between the Night King’s Army of the Dead and the living.
There will be many deaths, and fans will be hoping that at least a few of their favourite characters make it to the end.
But, how can an enemy as formidable as the Night King be bested? The answer: build a new wall.
This theory comes after season eight’s teaser trailer was revealed, and despite it not featuring any footage from the upcoming season, there were a few clues in there suggesting what was to come.
In the teaser, a cloud of mist and fire collide on a map of Westeros.
A direwolf and a dragon are frozen, and a lion is engulfed in flames.
The trailer comes to an end with the waves of ice and fire meeting in the middle and a large crystal emerging from the ground.
It looks like this crystal could be dragonglass, the substance which is deadly to White Walkers.
It could suggest that when Deanery Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) and her forces meet the White Walkers, fissures will open up.
Within these fissures could lie dragonglass which will spell the end of the Night King and his White Walkers.
However, it could also be hinting at another wall being built.
This wall could be made out of dragonglass and will be impossible for the White Walkers to scale.
Whatever ends up happening, one thing’s for sure, this battle sequence will be unlike anything viewers have ever seen on television.
HBO has spent an unprecedented amount of money on this final season.
It’s been reported that they’ve spent over $15 million on each episode, which would explain why there are only going to be six episodes, as opposed to the usual ten.
Meanwhile, it looks like Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) could be the first character to die in season eight.
The villain from the Iron Islands is supposedly on his way to Essos to ferry Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Heady) Golden Company back to her.
However, according to bookmaker Odds Monkey, Euron is the favourite to be killed off first at 1/33.
He’s closely followed by Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) (1/12) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) (1/8).
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
