Warning: Contains spoilers for Game Of Thrones season eight.
First details have emerged from the first episode of Game Of Thrones season eight, teasing a potential rift between Sansa and Jon Snow.
Following the first picture from the show’s final season, new details have been revealed from the season eight premiere – and it sounds like characters are set to collide very early on.
According to a behind-the-scenes report by Entertainment Weekly, season eight opens at Winterfell in an episode which contains ‘plenty of callbacks’ to the show’s very first episode.
The piece reads: ‘Instead of King Robert’s procession arriving, it’s Daenerys and her army.
‘What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters – some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories – as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead.’
They also provide a tease about Sansa and Jon Snow’s relationship in the premiere, writing ‘Sansa isn’t thrilled that Jon bent the knee to his fancy new Targaryen girlfriend, at least not at first’.
Other notable points include the anticipated confrontation with the White Walker army, which features in a later episode directed by Miguel Sapochnik who helmed Battle Of The Bastards.
It’s described as ‘wall-to-wall action’ which cuts between multiple characters in separate battles, with actor Peter Dinklage adding: ‘It makes the Battle Of The Bastards look like a theme park’.
It’s all sounding very impressive, but considering season seven criticism centred around the show’s questionable plot choices over spectacle, we’ll have to see if season eight’s six episodes will be able to provide a worthwhile conclusion.
More details have recently released on the show’s prequel spin-off, The Long Night, with Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse both cast in leading roles.
Game Of Thrones season eight is set to arrive in 2019.
