The Dawn age is probably the most fascinating. I mean yeh the Targaryens are cool, need their Dragons to make them special but if it wasn't for the first men there wouldn't be a Westeros to conquer in the first place. If it wasn't for the first men there wouldn't be WW (imo the most interesting/mysterious creatures ). How did the Children and the First men defeat the WW in the first place without actually destroying their race completely.

If Martin explored the other houses more then you wouldn't be saying the Targaryens are the Skywalkers of Westeros. There are many other houses that have 8,000 years of history to explore.
