Did you spot the Game of Thrones throwback which hints at Sansa Stark’s death? (Picture: HBO)

Game of Thrones finally released the first look at season eight yesterday and fans are already taking that three second clip and predicting the death of Sansa Stark, obviously.

HBO shared a tiny snippet from the final chapter of Game of Thrones, which saw Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) introduced for the very first time and there was a lot to unpack.

As we were promised, the Mother of Dragons made the pilgrimage to Winterfell with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) where her first time meeting the fam went exactly as you’d imagine.

Through gritted teeth, Sansa smiled: ‘Winterfell is yours, your grace.’

The Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss previously confirmed season eight would include all sorts of throwbacks to season one, and fans have spotted the first. Basically, Sansa fans should be worried.

Redditor CleverD3vil noted Sansa’s five little words were the exact sentiments muttered by her father Ned Stark (Sean Bean) when he welcomed the Mad King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) to the kingdom.

Next thing, he’s bent on all fours, an axe came crashing down on his neck and the last time we saw him his head was on a stick.

teasing the upcoming season, actress Sophie recently hinted: ‘This season is bloodier than ever. It’s full of betrayal, full of war, full of danger. That’s all I can say without giving too much away.’

Entertainment Weekly previously claimed that season eight would kick off with a ‘thrilling and tense intermingling of characters,’ so this is by no means a conclusion for Sansa and Daenerys.

A report in November read: ‘Season eight opens at Winterfell with an episode that contains plenty of callbacks to the show’s pilot. Instead of King Robert’s procession arriving, it’s Daenerys and her army.

‘What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters —some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories—as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead.’

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in April 2019.
