While Game of Thrones fans anxiously await the impending war against The Night King and his army of white walkers, director David Nutter has reminded us there is a far great threat destined for the residents of Westeros.

This week HBO finally confirmed Game of Thrones will return in April, with a new teaser. Although, skeptics think the clip, which launched with the hashtag ‘For The Throne’, may well be a red herring.

And now Nutter, who took the reins for the very first episode of season eight, has warned there will be multiple battles to biting our nails through in Game of Thrones’ final battle.

‘The White Walker army will not be the only issue our characters have to face in season 8, they have to also face each other,’ he stressed.

Nutter also assured fans they will almost definitely be satisfied, albeit grief-stricken, when the final episode of Game of Thrones brings the story to a close next year.

‘I think that [show creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [DB Weiss] did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned,’ he said.

‘I guarantee there’s going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it’s really very compelling stuff.’

Game of Thrones’ last outing will be its shortest yet, with just six episodes remaining until we discover who, if anyone, will be sitting on the Iron Throne.

However, each instalment will be well over 60 minutes long, and closer to a movie, Nutter added.

But fear not, with Game of Thrones out of the way we have the yet to be titled prequel, starring Naomi Watts and Poldark star Josh Whitehouse confirmed to be playing the leads.

Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and HBO in April 2019.
