Is Daenerys about to become…the Grandmother of Dragons? (Picture: HBO)

A new Game Of Thrones fan theory suggests Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) dragon might have had babies.

Not only that, but there might have been a clue inserted into the season eight theme tune and it’s been staring us in the face the whole time.

It relates to Dany’s dragon Drogon, who was absent from the tail end of season four until midway through season five, leaving Daenerys to wonder about its whereabouts.

What if Drogon is actually female and spent the time away laying eggs, hatching new dragons.

In the show’s theme tune, one of the rings featured clearly has four dragons branded on it, one larger than the other three. We could have been looking at Drogon and her three dragon babies.

Very clever, HBO.

Meanwhile fan Justzxcvbnm suggested on Reddit: ‘[Drogon] is the only one who disappeared, the only one who drove herds and took them all like roasted sheep.

‘What made me rethink this theory was after I saw an EP5 promo where Euron Greyjoy looks up at the sky and hears a roar of himself. Hears that the “grunt” is very different and gets scared.
‘Since he has seen the dragons for a long time he wouldn’t be scared for just a dragon, but what if theres more dragons?’

They also came up with counter-arguments to those convinced that Drogon is male.

One of the explanations given is that there is no way of knowing the sex of a dragon until they laid eggs. Plus it is believed in Westeros by Septon Barth and Maester Aemon that dragons were born without a defined sex, ‘meaning they could change sex if needed’.

That will be good news for Dany, as she is currently down two dragons.

Rhaegal lost his life in heartbreaking scenes in episode four when he was killed at the hands of Euron (Pilou Asbæk). Her other dragon Viserion was murdered by the Night King (Vladimír Furdík) and turned into a wight, then died after Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) killed the Night King at the Battle Of Winterfell.

Game Of Thrones airs Mondays at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic. Seasons 1-7 are available to watch on NOW TV.
