Game Of Thrones season eight will throw up some unexpected challenges for our favourite characters.
While season seven saw many of the main cast thrown from their comfort zones and plunged into new situations, season eight will reportedly about to go even harder.
At the end of the last run we saw Arya and Bran stark return to Winterfell, Jon Snow ended up in Kings Landing facing Cersei, and Daenerys and her dragon flew north of the Wall to save Jon and co from the ice king. But season eight will apparently go one better see them in completely new and ‘alien’ surroundings.
And while Jon for one has been all over the shop, this could be an interesting development for those who have mostly stayed put.
John Bradley, AKA Samwell Tarly, revealed to TV Guide: ‘Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that they’ve never been placed in before.
‘The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond… This season, I think, more than any other is stretching these characters.’
Season seven hinted at this mix up as it closed with Jaime Lannister fleeing Kings Landing after a set-to with Cersei, Jon and Dany off to reunite with his family in Winterfell, and Sam heading there too with information of Jon’s heritage. Adding to that, the White Walkers were on their way down south.
‘The stakes definitely feel ramped up,’ Bradley said. ‘We know that we’ve got a real job to do. This has been a part of people’s lives for so many years.
‘This is our eighth season, and we are kind of feeling the pressure to get it right because we want to satisfy people. We want to give people a payoff that they’re going to be happy with. We know how militantly passionate the fans of this show can be — in a good way — and we just kind of want to give them an ending that they deserve.’
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa, recently revealed that filming the last season has been emotional for the cast and crew.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It was very, very bittersweet. The first day of the actors coming in and that kind of production starting, the day where we had the final read through for the final script… it was really bittersweet. It was hard.
‘At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, “End of Game of Thrones.” As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears.
‘There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.’
She went on: ‘I’m getting goosebumps now thinking about it. It was a shock to the system. We actually realised, reading that “end of Game of Thrones line.”’
