Game of Thrones fans now think they have all the evidence they need to confirm Bran Stark is The Night King after watching season eight’s latest teaser.
HBO dropped a new clip from Westeros yesterday, announcing Game of Thrones would be returning to screens on April 14 while sprinkling a few cryptic clues along the way.
The trailer saw the Stark children – minus Bran – gather in the Winterfell tombs where they’re confronted with their own crypts.
Fans have been freaking out after realising Jon appears to be substantially older in his statue, because you know whatever that means will likely be therapy inducing. Ffs.
But where is Bran? Well, actually more fans than not think he was there all along.
Since season seven, whisperings the young Stark could become The Night King have steadily increased as what initially appeared to be one of the more ludicrous fan theories out there suddenly has more legs.
As the Three-eyes Raven, all fingers are pointing to Bran travelling through time, encompassing the body of The Night King and subsequently winning the impending battle against the white army.
Actor Isaac Hempstead-Wright previously teased big things were coming up for Bran in season eight, which is the least surprising news of the decade, yet we still know nothing.
‘I think the thing with Bran is that he’s had to change massively.’ Isaac said to Insider back in 2017.
‘His circumstances are pretty bad, but overall I think Bran has maintained his sense of being good. He hasn’t gone, like, “Oh man, I have all these amazing powers now, let’s mess some things up!”’
‘What’s been important has been taking this new role and that’s what Bran has done his whole life. He suddenly lost his legs, and then his family got killed, and then his house burned down, so it’s like, okay, “Now I’m in this forest with all these random people, and now I’m having weird dreams.’
‘But what Bran is thinking of above anything else is this sense of responsibility and purpose and not just being a kid anymore and doing whatever he wants to do.
‘Bran has certainly understood that this is out of his control now. He’s a piece on the chessboard that has to make a move, and he hasn’t got any moves.’
Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic on April 14.
