The final season of Game Of Thrones still feels like ages away, so fans are combing through every detail as much as possible for hints about what’s about to go down.
HBO surprised fans with a mysterious teaser that looks similar to the iconic theme tune, depicting sigils of various Houses being enveloped in either ice or fire, as the final showdown takes place.
The clash between fire and ice eventually envelops everything, hinting that only fire will be enough to up a fight against the oncoming threat from the Wights.
Where would said fire come from? Well according to one fan theory, Daenerys Targaryen will be the one to bring it after the battle at Winterfell is lost.
One eagle-eyed Game of Thrones fan spotted that in the new season 8 teaser, the surge of ice and fire meets at the Trident, which is a callback to a dream Daernerys had in the book series A Song Of Ice And Fire.
Reddit user ithinkiamrich posted in response to a fan who suggested that the fire and ice in the trailer was ‘simply illustrating the chaos of when fire meets ice, ie when the two sides finally meet to settle this thing’.
They wrote: ‘Yes, but something someone on twitter noticed: the place where fire and ice meet is the Trident. Hm…’
They then posted a quote from A Storm Of Swords of one of Daenerys’ dreams before the birth of her three dragons, which read: ‘That night she dreamt that she was Rhaegar, riding to the Trident. But she was mounted on a dragon, not a horse.
‘When she saw the Usurper’s rebel host across the river they were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew and turned the Trident into a torrent.
‘Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened.’
Will Daenerys’ dragons melt the Wights away in the final battle?
The user added that Daenerys and her dragons saving Westeros after Winterfell falls ‘would be fitting if they lost it there and the Others manage to go down to the Trident’.
Until the season airs, it’s all guesswork.
Game Of Thrones season 8 starts April 2019 on HBO and Sky
