Game of Thrones will never not shock us.

They kill all our favourite characters when we’re least expecting, set up love matches we never saw coming and generally keep us guessing as to what is actually going on in Westeros.

Now, HBO have taken things even further and trolled us all with that season 8 teaser trailer. Needless to say, we’re issuing a spoiler alert if you haven’t finished season 7.

We all got a bit overexcited when HBO dropped a trailer for Game of Thrones‘ eighth and final season, where we saw Jon, Arya and Sansa walking through the Winterfell crypts. In the crypts we see statues of their parents, as well as of themselves.

Ned and Catelyn’s voices are also heard as the camera follows the Stark siblings through the crypt, before a single white feather turns to ice. Creepy AF.

It’s no wonder fan theories went wild and predicted everything from Jon being the only surviving Stark sibling or Bran being the Night King.

But after all that excitement, Sophie Turner went and told us that the whole thing is basically a lie, explaining that the teaser wasn’t a scene from any storyline or even the show.

After digging up an old interview with Sophie, Game of Thrones fan site Winter Is Coming wrote:

“”We did this promo for season eight where—I don’t know if I can say this, actually. Well, actually, no,” Sophie explained in October of last year while attending New York Comic Con.”

“”It’s got nothing to do with the series; it’s just a promo. It was this big kind of statue of me, of Sansa, and I wanted to have it in the garden of my new house. But they obviously wouldn’t ship it from Belfast to New York, so…””

So… it all means nothing, then?!

Soph does have a habit of spilling Game of Thrones spoilers all over the place…

Well then. That’s all our season 8 fan theories out the window.
