Game Of Thrones bosses may have slid a sneaky spoiler in to the recently released season eight posters – and it may hint at the death of Jon Snow.
In the posters, each main character sits in the Iron Throne, hinting at the final and more than likely deadly battle as the Houses of Westeros fight for the seat of power.
But in Jon’s poster, actor Kit Harington can be seen sitting with his right hand positioned on the top of the left hand, and gripping the hilt of his sword – a look which is incredibly similar and reminiscent of Sean Bean’s season one character poster.
And we all know what happened there.
(He was brutally murdered.)
Sean played Ned Stark and was assumed to be the main character of the then-new HBO series until he was executed in a shocking twist midway through the first season and taking the series down the path which will soon come to still-uncertain conclusion.
Jon Snow has been a major character since season one when it was thought he was Ned’s illegitimate bastard son but it came to light at the end of season seven that he was in fact Ned’s nephew, after his mother Lyanna Stark wed Rhaegar Targaryen in secret and gave birth as she was dying during Robert’s Rebellion.
However does Jon’s defiant face prove he won’t succumb as easy as Ned did to death?
With a now legitimate claim to the Iron Throne – if anybody ever tells him – Jon will need to face off against Sansa Stark, the Lannisters, and his aunt Daenaerys Targaryen, all of whom want the Throne.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones will premiere on HBO and Sky Atlantic on 14 April.
