Well this is bad news for Game Of Thrones fans.
We’re all eagerly anticipating season eight, big promises have been made and it’s set to be a stonker of a send off for the show.
But sadly, we’re in for even more of a wait than we thought.
The final season is reported to be hitting TVs in the first half of 2019, but the latest comment from HBO’s visual effects supervisor suggests that target might be pushing it.
In the past, new seasons have dropped in April (save for season seven, which hit in July), and it had been said season eight could be expected in April 2019. However, it looks like bosses are aiming to release the final GOT in May. And late May at that.
Speaking to Huffington Post, he Joe Bauer said: ‘In two years we’ll be eligible for the Season 8 work.
‘We’re going to be toiling away on season 8 until May of 2019, so it’s eight or nine months away.’
For the show to be eligible for the 2019 Emmys the show would have to air the majority of episodes before 31 May, so a target of the 2020 Emmys suggests the show won’t begin airing until later in the month.
He added: ‘I know I’m not doing anything else but “Thrones” until May of next year.’
To be fair, from all the promises that have been made, it’ll be worth the wait.
It had previously been reported in Metro newspaper that Maisie Williams had said the show would air in April.
The star told the publication: ‘We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There’s a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.’
However, she later denied having made the comments.
