You never forget your first love… (Picture: HBO)

Sophie Turner has made her ultimate choice, as she went back to her first love at the premiere of Game Of Thrones series eight on Wednesday night.

The actress, who plays Sansa Stark in the HBO fantasy drama, was amid a whole bunch of cast members past and present – including one Joffrey Baratheon.

Jack Gleeson, despite meeting a grisly end in the fourth season after drinking some poison, was back to party with his former comrades and Sophie was around to give her old paramour a hug.

Ah, memories – remember when those two were betrothed? Then poor ol’ Ned kicked the bucket and lost his head and Sansa was shipped off to marry Tyrion Lannister.

Anyway, the two reunited in New York and it was all really awkward seeing as Sophie’s actual fiancé Joe Jonas was right.there.the.whole.time.

In a cheeky post uploaded to Instagram, Sophie embraced Jack, who was looking Joffrey smug, while Joe just stood there in the cold, pied off and abandoned at Winterfell.

Sophie captioned the shot: ‘Awkward’ and it was even more hilariously awkward when Joe shared the same shot and wrote: ‘WTF I thought this dude was dead…’

We’re all a little put out though perhaps just because Jack played Joffrey so ruddy brilliantly.

And fans were with us on that, as they wrote on the comments section.

‘You know he played his role well due to the fact this still makes me cringe,’ one punter wrote as we all nodded in unison.

Another added in a throwback to the show: ‘Tell Cersei it was Joe.. I want her to know that…’

And others took it perhaps a little too seriously as they brought up the holy name of Ned Stark and the fact he would not look kindly upon this union.

You know, mainly because Joffrey called for his death.

While set to marry his daughter.

While Sophie’s reunion with Joffrey was all well and good, the real MVP is her BFF-ness with Maisie Williams.

The two famously met during filming of the first season of the show and became firm friends; they now have matching tattoos and are known for sharing candid pictures of each other on their social media accounts.

Speaking about her bond and the storyline their characters (Maisie plays another Stark daughter Arya) take in the upcoming season, Maisie told EW.com: ‘It felt nice and powerful to stand next to Sophie.

‘Sophie and I are the tightest of friends when sitting across from anyone, so no acting required.’
